It’s a goddamn Mittastrophe.
Mitt Romney’s craven press conference this morning, in which Romney doubled down on a lie about President Obama apologizing for the attackers responsible for burning down the consulate in Benghazi, Libya last night, and killing Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans, is being ill-received by Democrats and Republicans alike.
When you’ve lost Mark Halperin, for example, you’re pretty screwed:
Unless the Romney campaign has gamed this crisis out in some manner completely invisible to the Gang of 500, his doubling down on criticism of the President for the statement coming out of Cairo is likely to be seen as one of the most craven and ill-advised tactical moves in this entire campaign.
Mitt Romney should have taken to the podium, expressed his condolences for the American lives lost, condemned the attacks, made a statement that the attackers do not represent all of Islam, and then shut the fuck up.
That’s what a president should do, and that’s what Pres. Obama did. What Romney did, however, demonstrates that he is neither fit for the presidency nor fit to be a presidential candidate.
If there were a mercy rule in elections, it would be called today. Somebody needs to put this jackass out of his misery.
